My Wife Dressed In Black

from the Johnny Faithfull: Songs And Stories From The High Country album.

‘SONGS AND STORIES FROM THE HIGH COUNTRY’ is a unique collaboration between the late Victorian singer-songwriter JOHNNY FAITHFULL and a host of contemporary (and in some cases legendary) performers including BILL CHAMBERS, ALLAN CASWELL, TED EGAN, WAYNE HORSBURGH and LACHLAN BRYAN.

‘MY WIFE DRESSED IN BLACK’ is the first single from the album – with lyrics by JOHNNY FAITHFULL and melody by Golden Guitar Winner LACHLAN BRYAN and DAMIAN CAFARELLA (who produced the album). The track is a duet with multiple Golden Guitar winner and chart topper ALLAN CASWELL and is the second time he and Bryan have sung on a track together. “I like it cos it’s real country music”, says Caswell, “and it’s great to be preserving the work of a great, under-appreciated songwriter.

In his lifetime JOHNNY FAITHFULL was an old-school entertainer. He toured with Ted Egan, performed at The Sydney Opera House and left a trail of warmed (and sometimes broken) hearts wherever he travelled. His unrecorded lyrics were left in the care of his friend JOHN (WOMBAT) PITTARD and the new album is a result of Wombat’s enthusiasm, dedication and friendship.
