Things I See Around Me

from the The Songs I Wrote For Slim album.

ERNIE CONSTANCE has lived all his life on grazing properties on the Monaro in the Snowy Mountains region of NSW with many of those years spent as a shearer, a profession at which he excelled. He began writing bush verse and, in time, sent his verses to the legendary SLIM DUSTY. Slim initially used Things I See Around Me as the title track to his Golden Guitar winning album in 1976, going on to record 16 of Ernie’s songs, 7 of which Slim put to music with Ernie writing the music to the remaining 9 tracks. Ernie has recorded 6 albums prior to this new release, all of his own writings. With this new album The Songs I Wrote For Slim, Ernie has recorded the 16 songs recorded by Slim plus an excellent new tribute entitled I Worship The Water (He Walked On). Superbly produced by STUIE FRENCH, himself a guitarist on some of Slim’s albums, a line-up of members of Slim’s various Travelling Country Bands was used including Stuie, CHARLEY BOYTER, ROD COE and ROB SUITOR. The album was rounded off with MICK ALBECK on fiddle and CAMILLE TE NAHU on harmonies. Things I See Around Me was the first set of Ernie’s lyrics Slim ever recorded and incorporates Ernie’s philosophy of writing about things he knows about, plus using the titles of many of Slim’s better known songs up until 1975.
