Brock Country

Belle Starr

from the The Year album.

From BROCK COUNTRY's album The Year comes the strong new single Belle Starr, described by Deborah Minter (Capital News) as "simply one of the best country rock songs of the year".

The woman known in history as "Queen of the Bandits" was born Myra Belle Shirley in Missouri in 1846. She was said to own Hatfield blood - made famous by the legendary Hatfield-McCoy feud, and the only daughter of a Southern family. This brown-eyed, dark-haired girl was raised to be a lady. Instead she became a rebel who drank and swore and toted two guns.

Belle Starr was written by Brock one afternoon. "You always hear of these infamous male outlaws terrorising the Wild West. I researched female outlaws and the story of Belle Starr captivated me...the song I believe tells a true tale of a very well respected woman who no man dared to cross."
